My name is Laura and I’m currently in my fourth year at the University of Ottawa in Communications. This semester I have the opportunity to work at ITmanager.net. When I first applied for the RBC Entrepreneurship scholarship I was looking to branch out and find a different type of job opportunity where I could more directly see the results of my work. As my time working here continues I am continually seeing exactly that occurring!
This employment opportunity has allowed me to already learn so much. I am currently finishing my third week of work as of writing this post and I have already gained so much knowledge that I know I can use later in life as well as now. Working in a startup has offered me many different opportunities than my other placements. I’ve been able to see a wide range of things that are important to starting a business. While I am working on marketing, I am not constricted to learning different parts of the business such as sales, development etc. This opportunity is unlike my other COOP positions and really allows me to gain more and new knowledge that I otherwise wouldn’t.
The goal for this work term is to continue to grow and learn new things. I love being able to continually grow my communication knowledge in a more real life and hands on way than in the classroom. As well, I look forward to being exposed to the environment that a start up provides as it is so different from the my other positions so far. The ability to collaborate and work with so many different people is an amazing opportunity.
I am excited to see what the next few months have in store and cannot wait to see what I learn and how I grow from this experience.
Thanks RBC for this amazing opportunity!
